ballardThe Lady, The Man and I traveled north in a rental car this week… with me stuffed in that darn box… to the trendy Seattle neighborhood known as the Kingdom of Ballard… where the hippies of days gone-by roam and cheese lovers of all ages sigh in relief that a new Murray’s Cheese Shop is opening tomorrow to bring them the best selection of specialty cheeses from the friendliest cheesemongers known to man…

Andrea is a lifelong cheese lover who has been working in the food industry for 9 years. She is happily residing at the Whole Foods Market in Atlanta with aspirations to become a cheese maker herself.

brad sinkoIn March, at the Oregon Cheese Festival, The Lady had the pleasure of finally meeting Brad Sinko, who has spent the last few years in Seattle as the Award-Winning Head Cheesemaker at Beecher’s Handmade Cheeses… she felt like she already knew him, but they had actually never met…

Brad  grew up in Bandon and first learned his cheesemaking skills from his father in the same plant where he is once again making cheese. Eggs Alexandra

A Brunch Dish rich enough for a Queen!

“There once lived a queen named Alexandra.  Though she was young and beautiful, her hair was as white as bleached bone, and her heart was almost as dead…”

So begins my original hour-long fairy tale, “The Legends of Alexandra”.  Recently I visited my parents and performed my story.  My Dad always cooks me breakfast when I visit, and one morning I got an egg idea so brilliant, it felt like bits of amethyst had burst inside my brain. At my direction he assembled: A piece of toast, smothered with my Mom’s pimiento cheese spread, all topped off with a sizzling fried egg. When I returned home, I experimented further and created a brunch dish rich enough for a queen.

Allison Hooper Gives Good Cheese…

IMG_20130319_092004_949The Lady adores Allison Hooper and every time their paths cross, The Lady comes home to The Manse energized with a renewed and even bigger cheese love… if that’s possible.

The first time The Lady met Allison was in the fall of 2008 at a DPI Cheese 101 that included Allison, David Gremmels, Lio Giraud and Andy Lax. The Lady and I had just begun our cheese journey and hanging out with those Cheese Swells was her favorite Cheese day at that point… who knew it would only get better and better… At that first meeting, Allison introduced the group to four of her cheeses.
