For fun, one of the questions I asked Cheese Professionals to share something non-cheesy about themselves… hmmm… here are a few of their secrets answers: (Click on their names to read their bios.)
Adam Burstein ACS CCP™: I know you said share one non cheese fact about me, but I am cheating and cheating and sharing two. I am crazy obsessed with anything Disney and hope to be a Cicerone one day.
Christine Hyatt: Owner, Cheese Chick Productions: I have been practicing yoga for 25 years – since early in my college days. It is the one practice that has been a constant, longer than cheese.
Elena Santogade ACS CCP™: I play the trombone!
Emily Morgan: Director of Sales and Marketing, Ancient Heritage Dairy: It requires a quick set-up. I am adopted, and I’m Irish/Welsh. I’ve known about the meaning of adoption from a very young age, younger than understanding skin-tone differences (this is relevant). I also knew my biological-mother’s name was, “Birth-mom Sarah.” That’s the set-up.
When I was really young, there was a picture of a woman cradling an infant that hung up in our hallway surrounded by other family pictures. I assumed that it was “Birth-mom Sarah” holding me when I was a baby, and I told everyone. It turns out that it was not a picture of my birth-mom… It was a picture of Whoopi Goldberg. She had shot the movie, Burgler, in my Aunt’s apartment in San Francisco, and she was holding my younger cousin. I don’t know how many adults I dragged into the hallway to show them the picture of Whoopi Goldberg, my “Birth-mom Sarah,” but no one said a word.
Since then, I have met the real, “birth-mom Sarah” That is its own awesome story.
Jane Bauer, ACS Education and Outreach Manager: I am a race official for the International Luge Federation.
Joy Park Ascher ACS CCP™: I’m a Certified Woodland Firefighter, something I picked up during my work with the park service.
Kelsie Parsons ACS CCP™: I love to roller skate!
Roger Olsen ACS CCP™: I took a 4 year hiatus from all things food to work with a furniture and cabinet maker. Returned to cheese full force after nearly cutting off my thumb and two fingers.
Tim Healy: West Coast Cheese Peddler, Rogue Creamery: I once ran a lap around a track with Steve Prefontaine.
Interviews will continue throughout 2015… sometimes, they will be “stand-alone” and sometimes they will be presented as virtual round-table discussions with several Cheese Professionals answering the same question. Those participating include Cheesemakers, ACS CCPs™,Cheesemongers and Cheese Professionals and Experts who contribute to this Wonderful World we call “Cheese”.
