April is Grilled Cheese Month: #11 Rembrandt Gouda with Pears and Vintner’s Kitchen’s Pear, Cranberry Pinot Noir Jam

Back in the Southern California Days… way back, just saying… The Lady and The Man attended their first Cheese and Wine Tasting at The Wine House in West Los Angeles. The tasting was led by a wine merchant friend who procured the cheeses from The Cheese Shop of Beverly Hills. She became a regular customer and began exploring cheese, never dreaming she would become a cheesemonger in her “second” career…

I’m willing to bet neither The Man nor The Lady can remember any of the wines… but that was the night The Lady discovered her love for aged gouda… with those fabulous little crystals… known as Tyrosine… amino acid crystals found in well-aged cheese. In addition to aged Goudas, you’ll also find these crystals in aged Parmesans and cheddars… they may be amino acid but we call them bursts of flavor…

Today, we chose Aged Rembrandt for our Grilled Cheese offering and paired it with pear slices and a tasty Pear, Cranberry and Pinot Noir Jam from one of our favorite “jammers”, Vintner’s Kitchens, located in the Rogue River Valley.
