Charlotte and Rebecca are back at it!!! Leaving the cheese in the shop and sleuthing around Providence, Ohio… Clobbered by Camembert is the third installment in the Cheese Shop Mystery series written by Award-Winning Writer, Avery Aames.
As The Lady always said about Cabot Cove, the setting for Murder, She Wrote… I’m certainly glad I don’t live in Providence, despite the fact that a world class cheese shop is located in its downtown. A lot of folks end up dead in both towns…
It’s Founder’s Day in Providence. Charlotte and her cousin, Matthew who run a cheese and wine shop, Fromagerie Bessette, are busy setting up a tent in the Winter Wonderland Faire area when Matthew thinks he has seen a ghost… Charlotte’s ex-fiance, Chip. Before the series began, Chip, a Bobby Flay-light, dumped Charlotte and headed to Paris seeking fame and fortune as a chef… like France needs another chef… especially one with little talent…
Unfortunately, it was no ghost… Chip is back… this time with a new benefactor, Kaitlyn Clydesdale, another ex-patriot of Providence, who moved to Texas. While there, Kaitlyn evidently married for money… although never expressly stated, my guess is she married some oil baron with one foot in the grave.
Kaitlyn has promised Chip his own restaurant if he will run a honey bee farm she plans to build, competing with the bee farm of Rebecca’s love, Ipo Ho.
(Rebecca left a local Amish community in the recent past and Ipo is her first love and her first kiss…)
As Charlotte runs back and forth between the cheese shop and the faire booth, tensions in the town rise with Kaitlyn negotiating to buy several farms north of the small town…
And that’s when the cheese starts hitting the fan…
Kaitlyn turns up dead; Ipo is the obvious suspect and Urso, the Chief of Police, arrests him, which sends Rebecca into overdrive…
With Charlotte unable to stay out of the fray, the two begin their own “investigation” to clear Ipo’s name and find the real killer…
Why the Police Chief doesn’t arrest these two and throw them in the pokie is one of the biggest mysteries to moi… that and why Rags, the true feline star of the series, doesn’t take charge and just run the shop… must be that “opposing thumb” thing that humankinds use to keep us felines as pets… should be the other way around…
Clobbered by Camembert is a fun read. The Lady read it out loud to moi (lack of opposing thumb prevents me turning pages without scratching holes in them) and I was rolling on the floor enjoying the ride.
Avery has created a tantalizing winter wonderland filled with cheese and intrigue…
I give Clobbered by Camembert 4 Paws out of 4 Paws (cause that’s all I’ve got).
Serving Suggestions: Curled up by the fire while The Lady reads is a perfect setting… or laying on her tummy in bed is another place to enjoy this book.
Wine Pairing: Sparkling Wine, why of course… it’s Camembert…
Beer: How about a hard cider…
