While in Louisville, The Lady discovered some great eateries and one of her favorites is a grilled cheese heaven on Bardstown Road in the trendy Highlands neigborhood (it reminded The lady of LA’s Melrose Avenue back in the day…). Tom+Chee is a simple concept: take one of our most beloved comfort foods, grilled cheese sammies, make them fancy and add tomato soup… ta… da…
Their menu is written on large chalkboards and at first glance is a bit overwhelming. The staff greets you immediately and asks if it’s your first visit. If it is, they suggest using the printed menu as it’s more accessible. Maybe, but only slightly… until you get the flow, the menu is hard to figure out…
Once she understood the menu, The Lady went the whole nine yards and ordered the Bermuda Ham and Swiss on Rye which also included potato chips with a cup of the Creamy Tomato Basil Soup. It was delish… only thing better than a grilled cheese sammy… is one with crushed potato chips…
The soup was also a hit; not too creamy and not too basily… it was just right…
Tom+Chee began in Cincinnati where self-taught Chef, Trew Quackenbush teamed with Corey Ward to bring the Ohio Valley its special take on America’s comfort food…
You can order a pre-designed grilled cheese or you can create your own… your imagination is your only limit… you can even order a grilled donut with Mascarpone and Mozzarella… now that’s pretty decadent… next time…
The Lady tells me that Tom+Chee is worthy of my 4 Paws Designation and that’s good enough for me… I give Tom+Chee 4 Paws out of 4 Paws (cause that’s all I’ve got).
