I mentioned last week that the good folks at Whole Foods Market, many of whom I saw this week at the ACS Conference, sent me a sample of their exclusive Royal Addition Aged Cheddar… aged exactly one year; born the day George was born in 2013 and released on his one-year birthday, July 22, 2014.
(Re-cap of the conference to follow… you can see my pix on Pinterest and Instagram… I’m Cheesemonger1950 on Instagram… follow me…)
Royal Addition from Westminster Cheese , a part of Somerdale Cheese, is a nutty, sweet cheddar with just a bit of bite at the end. The Man and I sampled it first naked to get the full flavors of cheese and then paried it with New England Cranberry’s Cranberry Pepper Jelly and Lindsay Stowes’ Cranberry and Hazelnut Raincoast Crisps, also samples courtesy of Whole Foods.
The pepper jelly has lots of whole cranberries whose sweetness blend well with the underlying heat of the pepper. Paied with the cheese created what I like to call “a party in your mouth”. The Raincoast Crisps also added to the total experience, with a crunchiness that went well with the creaminess of the cheese.
Royal Addition is only available for a short amount of time at your local Whole Foods (psst… the Petaluma Whole Foods is already sold out…); so if you want to try this cheese, and every cheddar lover should… you’d better get yourself to your local Whole Foods immediately… because when it’s gone… it’s gone…
Were Spaulding still with us, he would no doubt, give this straight forward, tasty cheddar 4 Paws… and so do The Man and I.
Last year, celebrating the birth of the new Prince, Whole Foods also sold a Westminster Cheddar celebrating his birth, which I also reviewed after buying a wedge at my local Whole Foods. You can read my review here.
My thanks to Whole Foods for thinking of me… now for the legal stuff:
FTC Full Disclosure – The retailer sent me their product(s), without any obligation on my part, hoping I would review the product/cheese. For more information, please see my About Me page.
